Home Health Care

Home Health Care vs. Home Care

The terms, ‘Home Health Care’ and ‘Home Care’ are often used interchangeably by patients and their families, however, there is a difference.

Home Health services are typically ordered by a Physician and cover things like Hospice Care, Shots, Infusion Therapies, Medication Administration, Physical Therapy, etc. Think, everything “MEDICAL” when you think Home Health Care. Most Home Health Care services are covered by private insurance and Medicare/Medicaid but DO NOT include personal care like cleaning, cooking, shopping, transportation, etc.

Home Care is traditionally thought of as NON-MEDICAL services and do NOT require a Physicians orders. Home Care includes Private Duty Nursing services like transferring, bathing assistance, housekeeping, cooking, transportation to Doctor’s appointments, etc. Think of Home Care like a “Rent-A-Daughter” program. Home Care services are private pay. Most health insurance plans do NOT cover personal assistance/Home Care services.

Typically, Home Health Care services are for short intervals of time (1-2 hours per visit) and limited frequency (1-2 times per week). Many elderly people living at home need more care than is covered by Home Health Services via Medicare/Medicaid/Private Insurance. Private Duty Home Care is not typically covered by insurance, however, some companies that cater to low-income Medicaid clients provide bath aid services, but get in line! There is income qualification required and high demand for these types of services. The aides are worn out, often mistreated by clients and as a result, burn out quickly. We get phone calls at least 3-4 times a month from people who have qualified for bath aid services but no aides are available to help them.

Like most Home Care Agencies, Sutton In-Home Care is a private pay agency requiring payment for services directly from the patient or Long-Term Care Insurance Policy. We help the elderly safely age in place by assisting with cleaning, laundry, cooking, companionship, bathing, transferring, shopping, etc. We charge a flat hourly rate for our services and have professional, reliable caregivers that you can trust. We work side by side with your existing home health agency to help bridge the gap between the services they provide and the services that we provide which are call Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s—cleaning, cooking, laundry, transfer assistant, toileting, bathing, etc.).
